Career Services Questions
1. Do you carry out a Salary Survey?
The CIC used to carry out a salary survey every two or three years.
The last published Salary Survey was in 1999.
2. I have been given your address to enquire as to having my professional
qualifications assessed to see if they are acceptable to work in Canada, for
immigration purposes.
The CIC determines qualification equivalency for
membership purposes only. These
may not meet the standards used by the potential workplace or by immigration
officials. Many of the universities
and colleges provide comparative education services.
One contact is Comparative Education Service, University of Toronto at
www.adm.utoronto.ca/ces.
For engineers, the Canadian Council for
Professional Engineers carries out an educational assessment. The information can be found at www.ccpe.ca/e/imm_education.cfm
3. I have just come to Canada and find that I need to
upgrade some of my skills. Does
your Institute offer any courses?
The Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering and
Canadian Society for Chemical Technology do carry out some professional
development courses throughout the year. These
courses are geared towards chemical engineers, chemical technologists and
bench chemists. For a list of
courses presently being offered, please visit www.chimiste.ca/profdev/index.html.
For more in-depth courses you may need to contact universities and colleges
directly. Lists of universities
offering chemistry, chemical engineering and chemical technology related
courses can be found through
../students/cic_chap_sites__e.htm
4. Do I need to join a professional association to get my
license to work in Canada?
For chemists, Quebec is the only province requiring
a license to practice. This license
would be obtained through the Ordre des chimistes du Québec.
For more information, visit their site at http://www.ocq.qc.ca/fr/adhesion/default.aspx.
For chemical engineers, licensure is carried out by
the provincial engineering associations. Please
visit the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers’ Web site at www.ccpe.ca/e/index.cfm#
to find out more information on national and international mobility and
licensing.
