Canadian Chemical Landmarks
The CIC's Canadian Chemical Landmark plaques are established to recognize Canada's scientific and technical heritage by acknowledging historically important achievements in chemical sciences and engineering and encouraging the preservation of Canadian sites connected with these achievements.
2005

First Chemical Synthesis of Sucrose

  • Raymond U. Lemieux and Georg Huber in 1953, at the NRC Prairie Regional Laboratory (now called the NRC Plant Biotechnology Institute), Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
  • to be designated May 29, 2005

2004

National Research Council Canada
100 Sussex Street, Ottawa, Ontario

1999

Thomas Carbide Willson's house
Metcalfe Street, Ottawa, Ontario
  • designated an International Historic Chemical Landmark in conjunction with the American Chemical Society on October 15, 1999  
  • plaque located on apartment building closest to the original location at the corner of Metcalfe and Lisgar Streets
