History of Chemistry Working Group
The CED History of Chemistry Working Group draws together scientists and historians with an interest in bringing to life the history of Canadian chemical achievements. Most of the efforts of the working group to date have focused on offering quality sessions focusing on historical issues at CSC annual conferences. The group is also interested in recording oral histories of Canadian chemists. Recent examples of History Group efforts include:
The Story Behind the Story. A series of symposia at CSC annual conferences where leading Canadian chemists have described what went on behind the scenes in their scientific work.
Firsts in Canadian Chemistry. A symposium focusing on Canadian chemical achievements.
Chemistry in the Community: Popularising Chemistry. Contribution giving a historical perspective to this CED symposium.
Concepts of Bonding and Structure in the Chemistry Curriculum: Their Historical Development.
History of the Pharmaceutical Industry in Canada. Joint with Biological/Medicinal Division
History and Applications of Theoretical Chemistry. Joint with Physical/Theoretical Division
The working group welcomes participation by chemists or historians interested in the History of Chemistry. For more information, please contact Hugh Anderson, chair of the History of Chemistry Working Group.
