- National Chemistry Week
The Vancouver CIC Local Section was again pleased to participate in the celebration of National Chemistry Week for 2008. This was the 14th year that Vancouver schools have completed in the Crystal Growing Competition. There was a very good response this year with 12 schools supplying 36 different crystals…the best level of participation to date. The judging took place at Science World on Saturday, October 25th, 2008.Three free children/youth passes to Science World were given to each school that submitted crystals for the competition courtesy of the Vancouver Local Section. The three judges were Gerry Reimer, MCIC, Zuo-Guang Ye, MCIC and, new this year, Cameron Forde, MCIC. They used the same criteria for judging that is used for the national awards. The following results were obtained after a very careful examination and consideration of each crystal submitted:Best overall crystal:

These shows are always enjoyed by a large audience of young people, students and their families. The crowd was delighted and awed by the prof's enthusiastic and well-paced performances. As always, Danny Leznoff, MCIC, kept everything organized and the event was the smoothest and most successful yet. And thank you to Andrew Tovey for helping to coordinate these events.
